If you are starting the New Year wanting to create some kind of change – or just striving to be more happy and healthy this year – then self-kindness may be the one resolution you need.
Start by practicing kind self-talk. Being your own bully is an easy habit to adopt. Harsh or judgemental thinking can prevent you from achieving what you want to achieve. Try to forgive yourself if you feel a sense of failure or missed opportunity. Being self-critical will not change the outcome but could significantly influence how you feel.
Practice compassion, find time and space to think about creating a medium between striving and feeling unsatisfied and acknowledging where you are now and what your potential may be in regards to your goals, dreams and fantasies. Feeling that you are important to yourself and accepting that the journey is rarely smooth and often life events and circumstances outside your control can trip you up can help you to start to look after yourself both mentally and physically.
